Harmonizing the Gulf of Aden

Time to put on your dancing shoes and get out the karaoke microphones. The Navy’s Political Art Troupe has released a stirring song to commemorate the mission to defeat the pirates of Somalia:

Translated, it goes something like this:

Make Haste to Somalia
Lyrics: Wang Lei
Music: Lei Yu

Make haste to Somalia, cruise the Gulf of Aden
With lofty sentiments, the Chinese navy heads for the deep blue
Braving wind and waves, the warship’s flag flutters,
The Chinese navy, a bright sword to harmonize the ocean.

Chinese warriors, valiant men with iron wills,
Intrepid journey, 600 years after Zheng He.
Heroic sailors, forge bravely ahead,
Bearing heavy responsibility, the motherland will see our triumphant return.

According to the PLA website China Military Online, the song has won high praise from the officers and men on board the three warships heading for the Gulf of Aden and they are all actively learning it. Pirates beware!

The question her is, how is this supposed to work? Somali pirates do not understand Chinese; you can’t play them the song, then arrest them while they are helplessly rolling on the decks, laughing their arses off! Or have I missed something?

Note to anyone whose feelings may have been inadvertently hurt here: At the moment,I do not aim to debate China, their government and politics, or the competency of their navy. My comment is totally in appreciation of their propaganda genius. Priceless!
