I would argue that a lot of this has to do with the Left / Right balance. There is still a bias toward focusing on the crimes of Left-leaning governments (though we can argue about whether China really fit that label even back n 1989) over the crimes of the Right. What about the anniversary of El Mozote? Why is Chavez's bid for more presidential terms worse than Uribe's (possible) bid? None of this diminishes the horror of June 4, of course---it just broadens the cast of villains. Great post. I would argue that a lot of this has to do with the Left / Right balance.
